Yeeda abattoir ‘ready for 2014 sales’

Pastoralist Jack Burton says his new abattoir will begin by concentrating on quartered carcasses and hamburger meat.

He has secured a contract with US chain Burger King, and said he will concentrate on killing cattle that are too small or otherwise unfit for live export to Indonesia.

Burton calls for abattoir funding

Pastoralist Jack Burton says the Commonwealth should be supporting onshore beef processing.

Mr Burton, who has an interest in cattle properties in the Kimberley and sheep properties in the Mid-West, expanded into abattoirs and now has a Perth retail outlet.

He said he is having to attract overseas investors because the government is not interested.

Yeeda abattoir ‘on track’ for 2014

Mr Burton told The West Australian he needs to sell more live cattle to exporters to get the necessary funds.

Yeeda: Burton starts work on abattoir

Pastoralist Jack Burton has started work on a new abattoir at Yeeda Station, near Derby.

He has already opened a smaller abattoir at adjoining Kilto Station, and bought a disused meatworks at Gin Gin, since the Indonesian government banned the import of heavier cattle.

Mr Burton said he intended to process 300 cattle daily at the new facility by 2013.
