Yawuru opposed to fracking
The Yawuru native title group has voted not to support hydraulic fracturing for gas.
Buru Energy already holds exploration permits to frack two wells at Yulleroo, on Roebuck Plains east of Broome.
The Yawuru group is therefore unable to legally stop the company.
A Buru spokesman said the company would continue to work with the Yawuru people.

Broome: Special Yawuru house blocks for sale
Yawuru people have the opportunity to purchase several housing blocks in the new Birragun Buru sub division.
There will be information sessions in Broome tomorrow and next week.

Peris acknowledges Kimberley heritage
Newly-elected Federal politician Nova Peris made her maiden speech in Australia’s parliament earlier this week.
She spoke about her mother, who as a child with Kija and Yawuru heritage grew up on Moola Bulla station.

Yawuru invited to plan Broome’s development
Yawuru director Peter Yu is urging his people to become involved in Broome’s town planning.
The group has held native title to much of the town since a Federal Court determination seven years ago.
Broome: Yawuru office opened
Yawuru traditional owners’ office officially opened last week.
Nyamba Buru Yawuru’s new premises are at 55 Reid Road.
The groups exists to administer lands, funds and other assets associated with the Yawuru native title determination.
Housing for members has been a priority.
Broome: Squatter camps cleared out
Broome shire has finished cleaning out camps occupied illegally behind the old meatworks site.
The land is vacant crown land, subject to native title claim by Yawuru people.
The squatters were given three months to vacate the land.

Fracking expert meets traditional owners
A British scientist was flown in to meet Yawuru traditional owners for an information session on hydraulic fracturing.
At least one traditional owner said he was dismayed to learn that Buru Energy had done some exploratory fracking in 2010.
A government spokesman urged the company to be more “transparent”.
Broome: Native title housing scheme
Nine houses are to be built for Traditional Owners in Broome.
The necessary funds have been provided under the terms of a 2010 native title settlement.
Eligible Yawuru families will be able to rent the houses at 25 percent of their income.
