James Price Point: Environmental assessment delayed

The state government’s Environmental Protection Authority has delayed its assessment of the proposed gas hub site.
New information has come to the authority about the possible effects of dredging on marine life at the site, which will now make it impossible to meet the 16 April deadline.

Worksafe investigates croc-attack cruise ship

The government agency WorkSafe is investigating the crocodile attack on cruise ship employee Tara Hawkes, 23.
Ms Hawkes was attacked by a crocodile on the weekend at Talbot Bay, and is now being treated for her injuries in Perth.

A True North crew member was attacked by a crocodile while swimming.
She was pulled away from the crocodile by passengers from the cruise ship, and airlifted to Derby Hospital to have her leg wounds treated.
The West Australian names her as Tara Hawkes, 23.

James Price Point: Study finds turtles nests

Scientists have found 38 nests of endangered marine turtles within 6km of the proposed gas hub site.
“An independent and peer-reviewed study into marine turtle nesting in the James Price Point area led by University of Melbourne marine biologist Malcolm Lindsay has found 14 turtle nests and 38 false crawls over the 2011/2012 nesting season, including the first ever recorded Hawksbill hybrid in Australia,” a statement from a green group says.

At least one member of the public has complained treatment of a crocodile.
Fatso the croc was paraded around Chinatown, and posed for photos outside Sun Pictures, before removal to a wilderness park.
The Department of Environment and Conservation is investigating.

Broome: Giant croc shifts camp

A 500kg saltwater crocodile moved from Cable Beach a location out of town yesterday.
It was Fatso, a 4.7 metre crocodile which has been a favourite at Malcolm Douglas’ crocodile park.
The crocodile park is closing down, and Fatso will live at the Wilderness Park 16km out of town.

Broome: Crocodile park closed

Malcolm Douglas’ crocodile park at Cable Beach is now closed.
The crocodiles are being moved to the wilderness park Mr Douglas started at Twelve Mile.
The Cable Beach property is being developed as a cafe and artists’ studios.
