Broome, Wyndham: Port authorities to combine

A new Kimberley Port Authority would manage all Kimberley ports under a new government plan.

The new agency would manage the ports of Wyndham, Derby, Cockatoo and Koolan Islands, Broome, and the planned port at James Price Point.

Rohanna Angus sent in this picture of a flooded creek crossing, taken on the weekend.

She says her family’s vehicles have been stranded.

“It’s at Mudnunn Road near Djarindjin airstrip,” she said.

“We have to walk to Djarindjin to get fuel and food – it’s about a 15 kilometre walk just to live in our block.”

Abstudy urges parent’s to check travel plans

Abstudy is urging parents of kids on scholarships to check their travel plans.

A spokesperson said charter flights sometimes turn up at remote communities only to find the kid is not there, and are difficult to rearrange.

Broome’s waterside workers may take a further 30 days industrial action in pursuit of an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.

Fair Work Australia ordered the extension of an existing protected action period.

Complaint about outback roadside assistance

An angry South Australian motorist has complained to the Murdoch press about outback roadside assistance.

He says he broke down near Timber Creek in the Northern Territory, and his automobile club had him towed 300 kilometres back to Katherine rather than 150 kilometres to Kununurra.

A man was hurt while helping load an iron ore ship at Cockatoo Island on Sunday.

He was hit by a winch handle and broke his arm.

Wyndham: Abrupt end to cattle export season

Wyndham Port’s cattle export season came to an abrupt end this year when a ship was diverted to Darwin.

A port spokesman said cattle supply was a problem.
