Cattlemen sue Commonwealth over live exports ban
Northern cattle industry members have launched a class action against the government for suspending live exports to Indonesia.
They filed the case in the Federal Court on Monday.
In 2011 the Gillard government’s agriculture minister Joe Ludwig abruptly banned live cattle exports due to animal cruelty concerns.

Broome fatal plane crash: Investigators report
Crash investigators say a sudden power loss caused the 2012 crash that killed pilot Adam Gaffney, 27.
The two magneto switches were in the “off” position.
They said it is possible the pilot switched them off, thinking they were the nearby landing lights switches.

Fitzroy Valley: Jerry can blamed for chopper crash
An inquiry found an empty jerry can caused a low-flying chopper to crash while mustering cattle.
The pilot had stowed the jerry can on a passengers seat with a steering wheel, but wind dislodged it and blew it onto a steering control.
He was not injured.

Minnie Bridge: Truckie charged after head-on collision
A truck driver has been charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
He was in a head-on collision with another truck at Minnie Bridge, on the Great Northern Highway near Derby, last July.
Emergency workers had to close the single-lane bridge for 12 hours, and cattle on one truck had to be destroyed.
Broome wharf OK for now
Broome’s jetty is expected to be able to handle shipping adequately for another six years without any extensions.
A new study says it is not yet time to start planning to handle additional traffic.

Virgin stopping Kununurra to Broome link
Virgin Blue is discontinuing flights between Kununurra and Broome.
Instead it will increase the number of Kununurra – Perth flights to four per week.
Virgin is also axeing the Broome to Darwin run.
Air North will continue to service both runs.
