Racing the Planet: Badly-burned runners testify
Marathon runners Kate Sanderson and Turia Pitt testified at an inquiry into Racing the Planet yesterday.
They said the marathon, in which they were almost killed in a bushfire, was understaffed and they were not properly warned about the hazard.

Turia Pitt to testify at marathon fire inquiry
Runner Turia Pitt will testify this week at an inquiry into last year’s Racing the Planet marathon .
She was trapped with other runners in a bushfire that burned 64 percent of her body at El Questro last year.

Ivanhoe Crossing still closed
The Ord River crossing at Ivanhoe Station remains closed and will probably stay closed for some time.
Every wet season the crossing, downstream from Kununurra, is flooded by the waters of the Ord and Dunham rivers.
This makes the most convenient road from Wyndham to Kununurra impassable to cars, which have to take the longer route.

Cable Beach is open again today after lifeguards declared it clear of stinging jellyfish.

FESA ‘not told’ of Racing the Planet
FESA said yesterday it had not been told Racing the Planet was to be staged at El Questro.
In a Kununurra hearing of an inquiry into the bushfire disaster that badly burned several runners, Police and the shire said they had also had serious concerns before the race began.

Cable Beach closed today

An Irukandji jellyfish
Broome shire has closed Cable Beach to swimmers today after lifeguards found an irukantji jellyfish.
A shire spokesman said lifeguards and the beach inspector trawled twice a day to detect the presence of the dangerous stingers.
