Regular Singapore-Broome-Wyndham shipping service

An Australian company has started a regular shipping service between Singapore, Wyndham  and Broome.

The Kimberline is carrying agricultural machinery and mining consumables, but the owners hope to attract cargoes of agricultural exports, such as boxed beef.

Cattle prices improve with Indonesia market

The last cattle ship of the season has left Broome for Indonesia.

Stations have been fetching better prices since Indonesia lifted a ban on heavy cattle earlier this year.

Some in the industry expect more heavy cattle will be allowed into that country again next season, and profits will improve.

Cargo ship in trouble

A cargo ship has been in trouble overnight as it weathers stormy seas just 320km northwest of Broome.

The West Australian says the Mellem Trader’s cargo shifted in the hold, causing the ship to lean at a dangerous angle.

On her maiden voyage, a luxury ship pulled out of Port Hedland and never made it to Broome.

In the 100 years since the Koombana went missing with all 157 passengers and crew, nobody has found the wreck.
