Broome: SAT rules on beach polo war

A judicial authority has ruled in favour of Broome shire’s support for Paspaley’s beach polo event.

A rival organiser had appealed to the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT).

The event can now go ahead next month.

Broome polo to cost shire $90,000 legal costs

Broome shire president Graeme Campbell says legal action over beach polo would cost $80 – 90,000.

The State Adminstrative Tribunal is to review the shire’s decision to allow Marylin Paspaley to stage the event, rather than her former associate Janek Gazecki.

Indigenous stockmen sought for beach polo

The organisers of Broome’s beach polo tournament are seeking young Indigenous stockmen to participate.

A spokesperson said Swan Valley polo club captain Matt Welsh will train the  new players  for the event in May.

“Polo was a popular pastime on the stations a century ago, but to the best of my knowledge it is rarely played now,” Mr Welsh said.

Cable Beach: Beach polo man keeps on fighting

Beach polo promoter Janek Gazecki says he will continue the fight to host beach polo in Broome.

Mr Gazecki staged the event with Marilynne Paspaley before their partnership broke up.

He has started proceedings in the State Administrative Tribunal to overturn Broome Shire’s ruling in Ms Paspaley’s favour.

Green light for beach polo

Broome is to have a beach polo tournament in May 2013.

The event had been held up by a NSW Supreme Court challenge between the two former business partners, forcing it’s cancellation this year.

This has been dismissed, with costs.
