Derby: Darwin protesters transfer to Curtin

Afghan asylum seekers who broke out of Darwin detention centre in protest are being sent to Curtin.

The 82 men staged a protest along Stuart Highway for most of the day on Wednesday.

James Price Point: Goolarabooloo claimant back in court

Goolarabooloo law boss Joseph Roe has gone back to the federal court.

He is appealing a dismissal of his claim that the Kimberley Land Council is not entitled to negotiate with the government over the future of James Price Point – and meanwhile premier Barnett is expected to announce plans to take the land by force.

Willare: Crash victim seriously injured

Contrary to earlier reports, a woman passenger in last night’s crash near Willare is in a serious condition.

The 55-year-old Derby woman is in Derby hospital.

Willare: Road train kills motorist

A man driving a Ford station wagon collided with a road train and died in the crash last night.

Police say the man was entering Great Northern Highway from a side road jus to the west of Willare, and five passengers in his car were not badly hurt.

Broome: Inquest into Balgo man’s death in custody

An inquest into the death of a 24yo Balgo man who died in police custody commenced yesterday.

The man had been arrested and taken to hospital, but he left the hospital and was picked up again by police who left him unattended in the lockup where he suffered a brain haemmorage.

Babysitter guilty of sexually assault

Perth Childrens Court convicted a 14-year-old Broome boy of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.

He was babysitting the child at the time.

Broome: Police seek camel tour arsonist

Police are asking for help to find out who burned valuable camel tour equipment on Thursday night.

The deliberately-lit fire destroyed saddles and other gear belonging to Red Sun Camels, but camels were not harmed.
