Ord agriculture ‘should expand’ says Governor-General

Australia’s Governor-General says expanding the Ord River Irrigation Scheme should be a national priority.

Lake Argyle: Plan to increase dam capacity

Plans are afoot to increase Lake Argyle’s capacity by 10 “Syd-Harbours”.

The Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project aims to achieve this by increasing the Spillway Creek barrier’s height.

Ord Stage III ‘could take years’

The company developing new Ord farmland says any NT extension could take five years or more to start.

The company was responding to the Prime Minister’s offer to give the NT government $10million to help settle outstanding native title claims east of the border.

PM pledges Ord Stage III

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd promised to further expand the Ord Irrigation Scheme yesterday.

While visiting Lake Argyle he pledged $10million to the NT government to help settle native title claims.

Mr Rudd said Stage III would create farmland in the Northern Territory, generating a further $150 million worth of business annually.
