Roebuck Bay: Anglers, Yawuru happy with netting ban

Spokesmen for Yawuru people and recreational fishers say they are happy with the commercial fishing ban.

The government has bought the only two commercial fishing boat licences for the area.

James Price Point: Government acquires land

Premier Colin Barnett has fulfilled his promise to acquire gas hub land at James Price Point.

Cable Beach: Yawuru people develop housing land

Yawuru people are subdividing new housing land for sale on the open market.

They acquired the parcel of land as part of the local native title settlement.

They intend to sell about 45 blocks next year.

Ungani Wells: Buru cleared of site desecration

An oil and gas company was accused last year of damaging a sacred site while exploring for petroleum.

The Department of Aboriginal Affairs has cleared Buru Energy of any wrongdoing at Ungani Wells, after an investigation.

The traditional owners’ representative has complained about the finding.

Broome: Boat ramp ‘culturally inappropriate’

Yawuru traditional owners say proposed boat ramp extensions are “inappropriate”.

A spokesman said the extensions, which also include access roads and car parks, would desecrate sacred sites.
