They will use the training to help plan the production of a remarkable traditional painkiller.

Nyikina Mangala native title claim registered

The Nyikina Mangala native title claim has been registered with the federal court.

The claim area covers much of the lower Fitzroy Valley.

The claimants now have the right to negotiate with developers and companies wishing to explore for minerals and petroleum.

Archaeological site ‘bulldozed’

Buru Energy is under investigation for allegedly destroying an ancient toolmaking site with a bulldozer.

The site is in Mangala-Nyikina country about 100 km east of Broome.

A company spokesman said there were no registered Aboriginal sites in the area, and Buru had obtained heritage clearances from Traditional Owners before commencing work.

Tribunal allows exploration on Mangala/Nyikina claim

The Native Title Tribunal has ruled in favour of a company wanting to drill on Mangala/Nyikina land.

Tribunal Deputy President the Hon CJ Sumner had no objection to Drill Gold Pty Ltd’s application for exploration permits on several stations south of Derby. more »
