Lake Kununurra: Dead fish found

Residents say they found large numbers of dead fish at Lake Kununurra earlier this month.

The Water Corporation had lowered the lake’s level by 55 per cent to carry out annual maintenance and repair work.

Work finished a day ahead of schedule, and the lake was full again last Monday.

Kununurra: Crocodile tale not confirmed

Members of a Kununurra online discussion group have been talking about a two-metre crocodile.

The Department of Parks and Wildlife says it cannot confirm the report, and urges people to phone the department if they have a genuine sighting.

The spokesman said it was difficult for wildlife officers to act if they had not received a report.

Lake Argyle: Weed control program

The Ord Land and Water group has been attacking about 1,000 hectares of rubber vine at Lake Argyle.

The groups has also been working to eradicate weeds around Lake Kununurra.

Kununurra: Plan to lower lake scrapped

The Water Corporation has decided not to lower water levels in the Diversion Dam this year.

A media release says lower rainfall predictions meant farmers would not have enough water in storage for the two-weeks needed to do maintenance works.

They will need to organise suitable supplies in time for next year’s scheduled dam maintenance.

Kununurra: Lake to be lowered 2 metres

Lake Kununurra may be lowered more than two metres this wet season, for up to two weeks.

The Water Corporation will be performing maintenance works on the Diversion Dam.

Anyone needing to know when the Lake will be lowered is encouraged to contact the Water Corporation.

DEC is attempting to trap the animal and remove it.

The Water Corporation will lower the water level in Lake Kununurra next week and the week after.

Boat owners are asked to remove their craft to avoid possible damage while maintenance work is in progress.

Ord River levels to fluctuate

Water CorporationsThe Water Corporation says levels are likely to fluctuate in Lake Argyle, Lake Kununurra and the Lower Ord.

Lake Kununurra will also be deliberately lowered for two weeks during the coming wet season for maintenance.
