Koolan Island: Main pit closed for repairs

Mount Gibson has closed Koolan Island iron ore mine’s main pit to repair a section of sea wall.

Management told The Australian repairs are expected to take about four weeks, and all workers had been redeployed to another pit.

Cockatoo Island: Company to take over mines

Pluton Resources has signed a deal to take over iron ore mines at Cockatoo Island.

Sydney Morning Herald said the deal, which would take some months to finalise, would have the company in control of mining tenements and other assets allowing it to produce Cockatoo Island iron ore before its nearby Irvine Island mine is producing.

Irvine Island: Mine costs double, share prices plunge

It will cost twice as much as first thought to develop an iron ore mine at Irvine Island.

Shares in Pluton Resources, which owns the project, fell by almost half after the company made the announcement.

The Australian says production at Irvine Island, which is five kilometres west of Cockatoo Island, will probably be delayed until late 2013 or early 2014.

Wyndham: New iron-ore mine operating

The new Ridges iron ore mine is in production and delivering ore to Wydham.

The mine employs about 100 local people, and intends to stockpile iron ore at a site next to the Wyndham crocodile park.
