Broome: Shire losing patience on Kennedy Hill houses
Broome shire has extended a deadline to demolish or repair derelict houses by a fortnight.
If work has not commenced at the end of this time the shire intends to sue Mallingbar Aboriginal Corporation and the State Government for $100,000 demolition costs.
Wangkatjungka: Fear of decaying asbestos buildings
Wankatjungka community has asked the housing department to remove two decaying asbestos buildings next to a playground.
The Department has said it will remove the buildings if the land is used for new housing.

Halls Creek: New subdivision ‘not wanted’
Government MPs have refused to say if they support a proposed housing subdivision north of Halls Creek.
“Can you explain why Halls Creek should be considered for future urban development and how that would maintain an inter-urban break beyond some roadside visual amenity?” a local newspaper asked.

Kennedy Hill: Shire delays demolition
Broome shire has decided to delay a decision to bulldoze four houses at Kennedy Hill til next month.
The housing department has boarded up two houses and found a house for one of the families.
The shire had threatened to sue the department to recover demolition costs.
Broome: Shire threat to demolish ‘third world’ houses
Broome shire has given Kennedy Hill’s Aboriginal community 14 days to repair several run down houses.
At least three, described as “worse than third world”, have been without running water since 2010.
The shire will demolish the homes and sue the Mallingbarr Aboriginal Corporation and Aboriginal Lands Trust for costs.
Halls Creek: Call for Aboriginal community panel
Wunan chairman Ian Trust is calling for a community panel with statutory powers for Halls Creek.
He said his organisation would like the panel to have powers to punish community members who did not pay rent or send their kids to school.
This is seen as a pilot program – once it succeeded it would then be copied in other communities.
