Helicopter company loses appeals

The owner of Broome Helicopter Services has lost his appeals against safety-related offences.

He was ordered to pay $450,000 to a passenger injured in a crash.

For a separate incident, he has to pay a $5,000 fine for putting himself and a passenger at risk after the helicopter was damaged in a landing.

Both offences occurred in the Fitzroy Valley in 2008.

Louisa Downs: Chopper crash findings

The inquiry into the fatal October helicopter crash has released its findings.

Pilot Angus Mundell, 40, clipped an overhanging rock with his rotor blades while trying to fly out of a gorge.

His helicopter then crashed into the river, leaving him trapped underwater in the wreckage.

Chopper pilot fined for damaged rotor

A helicopter pilot has been fined $5,000 for flying passengers in a damaged helicopter.

Joseph Peppe Calandra damaged a rotor blade while landing by the Fitzroy River on a fishing trip.

He later flew his passengers back to Broome.

Chopper pilot’s body recovered

Police have recovered the body of a helicopter pilot from a gorge at the edge of Margaret River Station.

The pilot, believed to be a 40-year-old man, crashed while returning from mustering at Louisa Downs on Wednesday.

He was staying at Larrawa Station.
