Halls Creek’s first music festival on Saturday was a crowd pleaser, says compere Mary G.

“It was a very important show for the town,” she said.

“It celebrated all the kids, people and cultures.

“Many of the kids’ acts was very good, a special treat was the return of the Shovellor Family Band (they was very good) and the highlight was Walkabout Boys they was awesome.

“Traditional dancing was fantastic with all the kids.”

Mary G sponsors KimberleyPage.

You can read a statement from organiser Bukola Esin here:

The inaugural Halls Creek music festival was a success. The festival gave opportunity to residents in the remote part of Halls creek and its surroundings to sit with families in an atmosphere that is drug and alchohol free.

It was a respect yourself, respect your culture atmosphere . And talking about culture, the local dance was an indication that the culture of the people of Halls Creek can be maintained .Men, women, youths and the little ones were all involved in the dancing.

There is an estamated 1500 participants at the event.
There was live radio broadcast through the PAKAM network with feeds taken from the studios of PRK radio and Wangki Radio OB equipment.

The fire works rounding off the event was loved by locals as for some it was a first time experience.

The festival also was an avenue for skills transfer in event management for locals so they can do it professionally themselves in future years.

With the Nguyuru Waaringarrem, Halls Creek has proven that she can host an event with such capacity and be organised about it.

We are proud of what we have achieved been the first time of such an event in Halls Creek and hope to produce a better festival in future. Nguyuru Waaringarrem was meant to promote everything good about Halls Creek and that it did.

We thank all our sponsors , government and non government. Local and media partners.
