Grapefruit season started

Growers are starting to pick grapefruit, two weeks earlier than the last two seasons.

They are fetching about $2.50 per kilo wholesale, which one grower says is more than double the break-even price.

Perth businessman Tony Galati┬áhas bought what are described as WA’s largest mango and grapefruit farms.

Managed investment company the Rewards Group owned the farms before it went into receivership two years ago.

Wet weather has delayed the Ord River red grapefruit harvest.

The state of the roads is also expected to delay deliveries to Perth markets til the end of this week.
