Football: AFL to fund Kimberley under-16s

The AFL is reportedly keen to fund a Kimberley football team.

The Murdoch Press says the league wishes to sponsor a Kimberley Aboriginal team to compete in the national under-16s competition.

Football: July WAFL game planned for Kununurra

WAFL teams Claremont and East Fremantle will play a July fixture in Kununurra.

It will be Kununurra’s first WAFL game in 12 years and the first in the Kimberley since 2006.

Football: Manson ‘overlooked, confused’

A spokesman from Garnduwa is concerned for Waylen Manson’s welfare, after the AFL draft.

Brett Claudius said the 18-year-old from Billiluna had not been given a proper preparation for the draft, and had not been sufficiently coached as to what to expect and what the requirements were.

Football: AFL draft overlooks Manson

No AFL club picked Billiluna’s Waylen Manson in this year’s draft, held earlier this week.

Manson played for Billiluna last year, followed by a couple of games for Claremont Colts this year and several recent matches for Waratah Warriors in the NTFL.

He had a number of visits from AFL scouts following his impressive tallys of goals for the ‘tahs.

Football: Joel Hamling

Geelong snapped up Broome’s Joel Hamling as pick 32 in the AFL draft.

Hamling moved from Broome to play for Claremont Colts last year.

He is due to arrive at Geelong on Monday.
