Broome and UWA enter ‘alliance’

UWA Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Bill Louden signing the agreement with Broome Shire President Graeme Campbell

Wendy Duncan MLC says Broome has signed a “regional cities” alliance with the University of Western Australia.

“Alliance cities will have access to undergraduates who will carry out research on issues in regional Western Australia which will be presented to both the State and Commonwealth governments”, Ms Duncan said.

A specialist educator has been working with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder kids in Fitzroy Crossing.

She said locking up kids with the disorder was like beating a blind kid for not reading the blackboard.

Lombardina: School attendance up 50%

A woman at Djarindjin-Lombardina has boosted school attendance from 60% to 90% in the remote community.

Michelle Cox, who began as a volunteer truancy officer last year, is now paid to visit truanting children and take them to school.

Zenneth Cox

Halls Creek’s Zenneth Cox was in the news last week, serving scones and kangaroo stew to the Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II visited Perth’s Clontarf Aboriginal college in Perth on Friday, where Zenneth is a year 11 student.

He appeared in the ABC television news on Friday night and Saturday’s West Australian (print edition).
