Shire rangers are visiting homes in Kununurra warning residents about unregistered cats and dogs.

Rangers are impounding more than 60 every month, and most are destroyed.

Fudge the missing kelpie may have been sighted on the Nullabor, east of the South Australian border.

Barry Haase on wild dogs

Local member Barry Haase supports a move to put a bounty on feral dogs.

“Wild dogs have been destroying 1000’s of livestock every year costing producers millions of dollars,” Mr Haase said.

“Whereas dingos were once the main culprit and cause of attacks on sheep and goats, it is now the cross bred mongrel that is the problem.

“Irresponsible owners of large dogs have allowed their domesticated dogs to wander, resulting in a much larger version of the wild dog than we saw years ago.”

A new cane toad detector dog is expected to be on duty by April.
