Djarinjin: New $500,000 passenger terminal

Broome Airport is building a $500,000 passenger terminal at Djarinjin.

It is a ferrying point for staff employed constructing Browse Basin rigs and platforms for Inpex and ConocoPhillips.

Djarindjin: Community has no by-laws

In a Dampier Peninsula community, hoons can do donuts outside peoples’ houses and police cannot stop them.

The ABC says Djarindjin has never been registered as a community, and therefore has no enforceable by-laws.

Cockatoo Island to Hedland: Cyclone advice

Communities from Cockatoo Island to Port Hedland are advised to prepare for a possible cyclone.

DFESThe tropical low that has been causing record flooding is expected to move over open water and possibly form a cyclone by Monday or Tuesday.

Parts of Cape Leveque Road have been impassable after more than a week of rains.

The ABC says the mail vehicle has been unable to make deliveries for 12 days, and community supplies are running low.

Dampier Peninsula community residents are invited to come forth with complaints and queries about things they have bought.

Senior Regional Officer for Consumer Protection Annetta Bellingeri

Senior Regional Officer for the Kimberley Annetta Bellingeri plans to visit Beagle Bay, Lombadina, Djarindjin and One Arm Point between 22nd and 26thApril 2013.

She says she will concentrate on raising awareness of scams that target Aboriginal consumers as well providing information and advice about consumer and tenancy law.

“Request for money scams target all Western Australians however there are some versions which are particularly aimed at Aboriginal consumers and I hope that raising awareness through education can prevent people becoming victims,” she said.

Soldiers are up in the Dampier Peninsula’s four main communities carrying out construction and other work.

The army chooses a different remote location with Aboriginal communities for its activities every year.

It provides the community with training and infrastructure, while providing the army with the opportunity to prove its engineering skills in the field.
