In 1912 a cyclone sunk a ship carrying 156 people, the Koombana.
The wreck has never been found.

DFES says the tropical depression is now unlikely to form a cyclone.

A cyclone “all clear” has been issued for coastal communities from Kalumburu to the Daly River mouth.
A tropical low is passing south over the Northern Territory and is not expected to re-cross the coast and form a cyclone.

The Sydney Morning Herald says a low pressure system has a 20 – 50 percent chance of becoming a cyclone.
The system is located in the Arafura Sea north of Arnhemland.
