In 1912 a cyclone sunk a ship carrying 156 people, the Koombana.

The wreck has never been found.

Author Annie Boyd will be launching her new book on the mystery next month.

Cyclone ‘all clear’

DFES says the tropical depression is now unlikely to form a cyclone.

However heavy rainfall and strong winds are likely to continue and people in the West Kimberley and Pilbara are urged to take precautions.

Cockatoo Island to Hedland: Cyclone advice

Communities from Cockatoo Island to Port Hedland are advised to prepare for a possible cyclone.

DFESThe tropical low that has been causing record flooding is expected to move over open water and possibly form a cyclone by Monday or Tuesday.

A cyclone “all clear” has been issued for coastal communities from Kalumburu to the Daly River mouth.

DFESA tropical low is passing south over the Northern Territory and is not expected to re-cross the coast and form a cyclone.

Possible mid-week cyclone

The Sydney Morning Herald says a low pressure system has a 20 – 50 percent chance of becoming a cyclone.

The system is located in the Arafura Sea north of Arnhemland.
