Bayulu, Beagle Bay: Kids play in asbestos-ridden sites

Abandoned buildings frequented by kids in Bayulu and Beagle Bay are contaminated with broken asbestos sheeting.

After months of inaction the Department of Aboriginal affairs has begun to cordon off the buildings with a view to decontaminating the sites.

Beagle Bay’s Sacred Heart school is adjacent to an abandoned asbestos building.

Kimberley MP Josey Farrer said residents are worried about kids playing in and around the eroding structure.

She told the ABC she does not know who owns the building.
