Afghan asylum seekers who broke out of Darwin detention centre in protest are being sent to Curtin.

The 82 men staged a protest along Stuart Highway for most of the day on Wednesday.

Derby: Bishop praises detention centre

Bishop Chris Saunders said Curtin Detention Centre sets a new standard for comfort and respect, after visiting yesterday.

Immigration authorities said there are no plans to expand the facility beyond its present capacity while theĀ  government is in caretaker mode pending the election.

Derby: Detention centre now holds 460 men

Two charter planes carried 141 Afghan men from Christmas Island to Derby on the weekend.

Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, who has visited the camp, said there is a good community feeling among the men at Curtin Detention Centre.
