Barry Haase on people smugglers
Local member Barry Haase says people smugglers are one step ahead of the government.
“The Government’s refusal to set up family processing facilities on Nauru in the first instance as suggested by the Liberal Party, preferring Manus Island where conditions and arrangements were completely unacceptable has left the policy stranded and provides people smugglers with a dangerous new incentive to put families and kids on boats,” Mr Haase says.
“The people smugglers now know that the easiest way around the Pacific Solution is to put a whole family on the boat, children with parents who are willing to risk drowning a child for the sake of a foot in Australia.”
