A report out today on the impact of Halls Creek’s grog restrictions shows a dramatic decline in violence.
However the number of Halls Creek people presenting at hospitals in nearby towns is up by 50%.

A government report due out today (3 February) shows drastic changes in Halls Creek since grog restrictions came into place.
This may prompt the director of liquor licensing to roll out similar restrictions to other Kimberley towns.

Fitzroy Crossing: Film about local women
A film about Fitzroy Valley women is in a national festival and competition.
Yailjarra, about Fitzroy women’s 2007 initiatives including grog restrictions, is part of this years “Flickerfest”.
Flickerfest is an annual touring festival of short films.

Police union wants grog bans following brawls
The Police Union wants action taken to prevent street brawling.
After incidents this season in Kalumburu, Wyndham, Kununurra and Broome the union is calling for alcohol restrictions similar to those imposed in Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing.
A Wyndham police officer has been hospitalised with facial injuries, and a Kununurra officer knocked unconscious, in street brawls this holiday season.
Fitzroy Crossing: Private grog orders still coming in
Fitzroy Crossing police can’t stop people buying mail-order grog, or sending friends to buy alcohol in Derby.
They say as long as a receipt can be produced, they cannot confiscate grog coming into town.
