Canning Basin: Massive oil find

Apache Energy has discovered a new oilfield in the offshore part of the Canning Basin.

The company was exploring for gas, but instead found light crude oil.

Some industry players say it could be Australia’s biggest oil discovery in 30 years.

Dalisa Pigram tipped to win Helpmann Award

Dalisa Pigram is a finalist in this year’s Helpmann Awards, for excellence in Australian performing arts.

She is tipped to win the Best Female Dancer category.

Winners are to be announced at a ceremony in Sydney tonight.

Warmun: Flood rescuers’ bravery recognised

This years Australian Bravery Awards recognised nine people for their part in the 2011 flood rescues.

Christopher Churchill and Senior Constable Donald Couper received Commendations for Brave Conduct.

A group bravery citation went to Kathleen and Rodney Burnby, the late Christopher Clare, Tanya Couper, Cecil Mosquito, Julie Echo and Leon Pinday.

Halls Creek: Irish backpacker granted bail

The Irish backpacker who allegedly concealed the birth of her baby at Halls Creek has been granted bail.

She is allowed to return to Ireland when on bail.

The baby died before or after it was born.
