Herd Supervisor
Noonkanbah Rural Enterprises Pty Ltd (NRE) is based at Noonkanbah Station, near
Fitzroy Crossing, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The company manages the
pastoral lease on behalf of the Yungngora Association Incorporated and is responsible for the
successful running of the Station with respect to the cattle herd and Station pasture and plant
and equipment. Noonkanbah operates a live cattle export business, exporting from Broome
(WA).
NRE is seeking Expressions of Interest for the role of Herd Supervisor on a contract basis.
The position will be based on the Station for the duration of the muster and associated
activities. The agreement is for an initial period of one (1) year with a review by both parties
to determine any likely contract extension.
Remuneration will be by way of a retainer and a profit sharing arrangement.
The NRE Board makes all property management decisions and is responsible for these. The
Board may take into consideration any recommendations made by the Herd Supervisor.
The Herd Supervisor will be required to undertake the following tasks along with any other
tasks as agreed.
„X Plan and carry out day to day herd management.
„X Plan for, arrange and report on all mustering activities on a regular basis. This includes
responsibility for immunisation, ear-tagging, branding, de-horning and other associated
tasks during the muster.
„X Coordination of aerial muster, freighting of cattle, feed and yard management for timely
export.
„X Prepare reports on cattle returned to paddocks on a regular basis, including cattle
sales.
„X Prepare detailed records/tallies of all cattle yarded.
„X Arrange for the shipment and sale of cattle including the liaison with ships in port.
„X Prepare reports and recommendations for the NRE Board on general pastoral and
plant requirements.
The successful applicant will be expected to have considerable experience in herd
management and the planning and successful mustering of large cattle herds.
An interest in and understanding of contemporary indigenous issues will be an advantage due
to the requirement to work with the indigenous community on the Station.
