A young man was bashed and robbed by a group of men early on Friday morning.

He did not know his attackers, who stole his shoes and phone.

A man received 10-month sentence for a sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl on a community.

Derek James Butt, 35, entered the girls room as she slept, ordered an older relative to leave the room, and then climbed into bed with the girl and touched her breasts.

Ronny Woia, 38, stabbed his partner in the back, puncturing her lung.

Looma: Magistrate lashes court facilities

Broome’s magistrate has criticised the quality of court facilities on the court circuit.

Magistrate Col Roberts said he had to conduct a court sitting in a carpark and in the rain at Looma community because the promised new facility was not ready.

Marathon bushfire: Police call for inquiry

An internal police report recommended an inquiry into last year’s “Racing the Planet” marathon at El Questro.

The report found the event, in which two women were badly burned, placed undue stress on local health and emergency services and and inquiry needed to be made into the organisers and their management.

This appear to contradict Minister Kim Hames’ statement that there is “no avenue” to hold an inquiry.

Kununurra: Man trashes office, threatens staff

A Broome man trashed a travel agency and threatened staff when he was refused a refund for a bus ticket.

Garret Gordon, 33, pleaded guilty to charges relating to the incident in Kununurra Magistate’s Court.

Canberra: Media got Aboriginal protest ‘wrong’

Kununurra’s Selena Davey-Newry, who was at 26 January protests in Canberra, says the media “got it wrong”.

She denied reports of a violent protest, saying they approached a Prime-Ministerial function with clapping sticks and didgeridoos, and were met by Federal Police in riot gear.
