They are Amir Hammad from Egypt and Jerome Herveux from France taking the oath during Australia Day celebrations with Shire President Graeme Campbell.
Broome: Premiers’ Active Citizenship awards winners

Broome’s shire president announced three Premiers’ Active Citizenship awards at Town Beach this morning.
They went to Gwen Knox, Rhiannon Hutcheson and Beagle Bay Women’s Group.

Two Broome residents became Australian citizens today.

Cornel Ozies
Film maker Cornel Ozies has taken out an award for exceptional talent.
A recent graduate of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School’s (AFTRS) Diploma in Cinematography Award Course in Sydney, he also received the AV Myers Indigenous Award for exceptional talent.

Mosquito disease policeman starts to speak

Constable Ryan Marron, stricken with a disease last year at Balgo, managed to start speaking last week.
He has been crippled by Murray Valley Encephalitis, and unable to care for himself.
The mosquito-borne disease affected an alarming number of people last year.
There is no cure and no vaccine for the disease, which causes the brain to swell.

Jandamarra film wins national award

The TV movie Jandamarra’s War won a national award in Sydney on Sunday night.
Director Mitch Torres said the award was the the AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Art) award in the category Best Documentary (under on hour).

Kununurra district high school students Andrea Waser and Fiona Gearon have been given significant awards.
The education department says Curriculum Council Certificates of Excellence are awarded to students who achieve 10 or more ‘A’ grades in their final two years of schooling.
