Broome: New deputy shire president
Harold Tracey is Broome’s new Deputy Shire President.
He replaces Jenny Bloom, who resigned from council last week.
The shire has also voted not to hold a by-election for Ms Bloom’s former seat, leaving it vacant until next year’s elections.

Broome: Shire councillor resigns
Cr Jenny Bloom has resigned from her position on Broome Shire Council.
She has been a councillor for five years, and had one year left of her term of office.

Halls Creek: Shire to present Tanami track upgrade business case
Halls Creek shire is about to present its case to the body that advises governments on infrastructure developments.
The shire has been lobbying for many years to have the Tanami Road upgraded to bitumen.

Kununurra: Rolf Harris plaque stolen
Someone has stolen a plaque from one of the celebrity trees in Kununurra’s Celebrity Tree Park.
Council was due to vote this week on whether to keep or remove the plaque after Harris’ UK sexual abuse conviction.
Trees planted by former Premier Brian Burke and former PM Julia Gillard have also been damaged or uprooted.

Cable Beach: Croc sighting
Broome shire has closed Cable Beach to swimmers.
A shire spokesman issued this statement:
“Cable Beach near Gantheaume Pt has been closed to swimmers following a confirmed sighting of a crocodile about 2.5m long and 20m offshore, midway between Cable Beach and Gantheaume Pt and heading south.
“Shire Rangers and DPaW officers are monitoring, and any enquiries should be made to DPaW.”
Mark McGowan on Royalties for Regions
Mark McGowan says the government has not spent the promised 25 percent of mining royalties on regional WA.
The opposition leader says only about three quarters the promised Royalties for Regions money has in fact been spent on the regions.
“Over the next four years, the percentage of mining royalties being spent in regional WA will drop further to only 12.5 per cent,” Mr McGowan said.

Kununurra: Shire blitz on unregistered pets
Shire rangers are visiting homes in Kununurra warning residents about unregistered cats and dogs.
Rangers are impounding more than 60 every month, and most are destroyed.
Broome: Shire losing patience on Kennedy Hill houses
Broome shire has extended a deadline to demolish or repair derelict houses by a fortnight.
If work has not commenced at the end of this time the shire intends to sue Mallingbar Aboriginal Corporation and the State Government for $100,000 demolition costs.
