Kununurra: Rolf Harris plaque stolen

Someone has stolen a plaque from one of the celebrity trees in Kununurra’s Celebrity Tree Park.

Council was due to vote this week on whether to keep or remove the plaque after Harris’ UK sexual abuse conviction.

Trees planted by former Premier Brian Burke and former PM Julia Gillard have also been damaged or uprooted.

The old sugar mill changed hands on Tuesday 15 July.

Ord sugar mill, now leased by a sandlewood company

The old Ord sugar mill

The Chinese Company that plans to develop the new Ord agricultural land plans to use it to process sweet sorghum.

This is to be made into a syrup used to produce a spirit called Baijiu.
