Kununurra: Ord Stage II ‘at risk if Abbott wins’
State opposition leader Eric Ripper says a Liberal Commonwealth Government could axe the Ord Stage II project.
He said Mr Abbott promised to cut state infrastructure projects, such as the irrigation project, in his election costings.

Better mobile coverage promised
The state government is to spend $120million improving mobile phone coverage in the regions.
A media statement says upgrades to mobile phone towers are “under consideration” in several WA regions, including the Kimberley.

James Price Point: Green groups challenge land clearing permit
Green groups are challenging Woodside’s right to clear land for a gas hub without environmental approvals.
The company’s license to perform seismic testing, which is said to interfere with whale’s sonar sensing, is also under appeal.

East Kimberley: Government ‘refuses’ to fight bushfires
Local landholders say the government is refusing to help fight bushfires if there is an aeroplane involved.
They say they have recently been paying a local operator to help fight fires by plane.
James Price Point: Greens approval unlikely
Greens Senator Rachel Siewert says her party will not make it easy for a Kimberley gas hub.
Although the Greens would be unable to prevent a government granting environmental approval for the project, she said she will be considering “options” with her party.

Several green groups have pooled their resources to launch a campaign.
Environs Kimberley, WWF Australia, Conservation Council, Pew Environment Group, and the Nature Conservancy wish to reserve much of our region as a wilderness park.
