West Kimberley: Five bushfires burning

Broome and Derby-West Kimberley shires have a total of five bushfires burning at present.

They are at:

  • Great Northern Highway north-east of Willare Bridge Roadhouse
  • Cape Leveque Road 15 kilometres south of Lombadina
  •  five kilometres south of Roebuck Plains Roadhouse
  • 90 kilometres east of Roebuck Roadhouse
  • Great Northern Highway between Bidyadanga Road and Fraser Downs Road.

Ellendale: Diamonds auction nets $5million

Kimberley Diamonds has raised more than $5million in an auction of Ellendale Diamonds.

The price achieved is the highest since the company bought the mine early last year.

Workshops lead to new Aboriginal businesses

Morrgul says it has mentored 12 new Aboriginal business across the Kimberley, which are about to launch.

The Woodside-funded company says 55 people attended workshops in Kununurra, Halls Creek, Fitzroy Crossing, Derby and Broome.

Derby Highway death: Man charged

Police have charged a man after a fatal accident on Derby Highway last December.

The car he was driving collided with a cow, killing a 13-year-old girl passenger.

Native title win for Mangala-Nyikina

The High Court handed down a native title determination at a special sitting at Langley Crossing, near Derby.

It was a consent determination involving Traditional Owners, pastoralists the WA government.

Lake Argyle: 200,000 barramundi released

Breeders have released 200,000 more barramundi fingerlings at Lake Argyle.



They are bred in Broome from Ord River stock.
