Broome: Man jailed for manslaughter

A man copped a nine-year jail sentence for the manslaughter of a woman with whom he had just had sex.

Goldfields man Elton John Ward, 40, was acquitted of murdering the 32-year-old Kalumburu woman three years ago.

Broome: Companies fined $140,000 over transport workers’ deaths

The deaths of two transport workers in 2008 resulted in fines totalling $140,000.

Barker Hughes copped an $80,000 fine and Oilfields Transport Services $60,000 as they failed supply a safe working environment for the two men.

Opinion: Rachel Siewert on policing the gas hub

James Price Point: 250 extra police flown to Broome

As many as 250 police have arrived at Broome, armed with riot gear.

The are in town to tackle protestors against the gas hub at James Price Point.

About 300 people gathered at Broome’s Courthouse markets, which are opposite the Police Station.

It being Mothers’ Day, they crossed the road and presented the police with an estimated $500 worth of flowers for their  mothers.
