Broome: New deputy shire president

Harold Tracey is Broome’s new Deputy Shire President.

Broome shire officeHe replaces Jenny Bloom, who resigned from council last week.

The shire has also voted not to hold a by-election for Ms Bloom’s former seat, leaving it vacant until next year’s elections.

New Deputy Shire President welcomed
Broome Shire Councillor Harold Tracey has been sworn in as the new Deputy Broome Shire
President.
Cr Tracey was sworn in by Justice of the Peace and Freeman of the Shire of Broome, Kim
Male, at last night’s Ordinary Meeting of Council following the resignation last week of former
Deputy Shire President, Jenny Bloom.
Broome Shire President Graeme Campbell said he was pleased to welcome Cr Tracey to the
position and looked forward to working closely with him.
Council also voted at the meeting to apply to the WA Electoral Commissioner for approval not
to hold an extraordinary election to replace former Cr Bloom and to operate with the eight
remaining Councillors.
Cr Campbell said the cost of an extraordinary election would be about $28,000, and he was
confident Council would continue to operate effectively with eight Councillors.
