Mango madness just days away

BROOME is set to fall into the grip of mango madness when the 2013 Broome Mango

Festival gets underway on Thursday.

Presented by the Lions Club of Broome, the 27th Broome Mango Festival runs from

Thursday 21 November to Sunday 24 November 2013, with events raising money for a

range of worthwhile charities.

The festival’s signature events, the Great Chefs of Broome and the Great Bartenders of

Broome, will be back along with the Mango Tasting; Mango Quiz Night; Mango Jams,

Cakes and Chutneys; the White Ribbon Day Gala; UGLY Bartenders; Mango Mania; and

even A Taste of Broome and the Courthouse Markets will get in on the mango madness

this year.

Lions Club of Broome president Chris Mitchell says he hopes the whole town will again be

swept up in the excitement.

“Over its history of more than a quarter of a century the Mango Festival has become one

of Broome’s favourite annual events,” Mr Mitchell says.

“The Broome Mango Festival was started by Lions back in 1986 as a way of boosting the

Kimberley’s mango industry, raising funds for charity and building community spirit at a

time of year when things are slowing down.

“Broome’s Lions Club is really proud to again be able to put on a fantastic event for the

whole town and at the same time raise funds for great causes.”

The festival’s hallmark event, the Great Chefs of Broome, this year returns to Cable Beach

Club Resort’s Sam Male Room on Sunday 24 November.

The town’s best chefs will conjure culinary creations before a panel of expert judges and a

room full of discerning diners enjoying a sumptuous brunch, with a door prize, raffles and

entertainment.

Broome’s best cocktail practitioners will put on a show for the crowd at the Great

Bartenders of Broome on Friday 22 November.

Spectators can watch the mixers fly at Zoo Bar and Cafe as the bartenders create their

trademark tipples, all with a common ingredient – mango.

Amateur cooks will also get the chance to show their wares in the Mango Jams, Cakes

and Chutneys competition, and the community can come along to the Broome Boulevard

for a taste and to vote for their favourite.

Mango Tasting at Matso’s Broome Brewery gives everyone the chance to sample a range

of mango varieties, with hundreds of fruit being collected ready to be shared amongst

appreciative punters.

The ever-popular Mango Quiz Night will again be held at the Broome RSL with a whole lot

of fun and a host of fantastic prizes up for grabs.

Rounding out the Broome Mango Festival program for 2013 is the White Ribbon Day Gala

at the Broome Civic Centre, UGLY Bartenders and Mango Mania at the Roebuck Bay

Hotel, A Taste of Broome at Goolarri Media’s Gimme Club, and the Broome Courthouse

Markets.
