Farrer endorsed as ALP candidate for Kimberley

Respected Kimberley local Josie Farrer was endorsed as WA Labor’s candidate for the Kimberley Region at yesterday’s State Executive meeting.

Ms Farrer, a Kija woman born at Moola Bulla station, lives in Halls Creek with her children and partner of thirty years, Mario.

“For 16 years I worked as a Halls Creek Shire Councillor. For seven of these years I held the position of Shire President,” Ms Farrer said.

“I have worked hard to ensure my children and grandchildren have more opportunities than I did growing up in the Kimberley.

“It is important to me to be able to give my children more education and employment opportunities and for them to connect with their law, culture and land in a meaningful way.

“I always believed that to ensure our region wasn’t overlooked or undervalued it was important to have a say in the bigger picture.

“I now want to ensure the Kimberley region continues to have a strong voice in Parliament.

“I am a passionate advocate for the people of the Kimberley Region and I have a strong commitment to maintaining Aboriginal culture.”

Ms Farrer said although a lot of her working life was dedicated to helping the town of Halls Creek, if elected she wanted her time in Parliament to be about investing in the people and infrastructure in the region.

“It is important that the values of the Kimberley are not only maintained but respected by people who come here to live, invest and holiday,” she said.

“The potential of the Kimberley Region is immense, but we know only a WA Labor Government will make the investments required in health and education.

“Only a WA Labor Government will ensure that development is environmentally sound and delivers local jobs and local infrastructure to our communities.

“Only a Labor Government will ensure that the decisions of traditional owners about their land are respected.

“Only WA Labor will truly respect and realise the potential of the Kimberley Region and its people.”
