Police Union president apologises to Carol Martin
The Police Union president apologised to local member Carol Martin for remarks he made earlier this year.
Ms Martin threatened to sue Russell Armstrong after he said Aborigines have a culture of drunkenness and violence towards women and police.

Derby and Fitzroy Crossing: Police ‘forced to clean station lockups’ says MP

Shadow police minister Margaret Quirk says police in stations including Fitzroy Crossing have to clean their own cells.
Fitroy Crossing’s Senior Sergeant Ian Gibson suggested we take her statement with a grain of salt.
“The guys do it as a matter of course when they do their fatigues on Sunday,” he said.

Derby – Perth – Derby flights increasing to four per week
Strategic Airlines says it is increasing regular Perth – Derby return passenger flights to four per week.
The Wednesday service is due to commence on 4 August.

Halls Creek: 20% of population ‘are carers’
A report found 20% of Halls Creek’s population are carers.
The National Rural Health Alliance said Aboriginal carers in remote areas are often unemployed and have health problems themselves, and have very few specialised services available.

Today is the deadline Premier Barnett gave native title claimants to agree on plans for a gas hub.
He said he is yet to decide whether to procede with his threat to acquire the land by force, now that the two native title groups seem unlikely to agree.
Katoomba: Law reports looks at ‘Wanjina’ sculpture

The ABC’s Law report focuses on the controversial ‘Wanjina’ sculpture outside a Blue Mountains art gallery.
Mowanjum artists have sought legal advice to see if any action can be taken against the person who commissioned the sculpture, which is now subject to planning approval from the Katoomba shire council.

Hiker dies in gorge
A 66-year-old man collapsed and died while hiking in a central Kimberley gorge yesterday.
His death is not being treated as suspicious.
The West Australian says the incident occurred at Lennard Gorge.

Ord River Resources expects to prove a rich reserve of copper on the site.
