Broome: Free microchip ID for cats and dogs

Broome shire will be giving away free microchip identification for cats and dogs later this month.
A vet will be located outside the Shire office, ready to insert the high-tech identification system into the first 50 cats and 150 dogs that show up.
You can read the shire statement here:
The Shire of Broome, Broome Veterinary Hospital and All Creatures Veterinary Clinic have come together to present this great opportunity to the residents of Broome.
A FREE microchip is available for the first 150 registered dogs and the first fifty cats presented to vet staff located in front of the Shire Administration Centre, on Saturday 24 April 2010 from 9.00am.
What do you get? A microchipped pet! Also a listing for life of the animal with the Central Animal Records (CAR), a numbered external tag cross linked to the microchip record (almost 40% of recoveries via the CAR tag recovery service, are due to the microchipped pet wearing their tag), and certificate of identification.
The free microchip is open to residents of Broome only, so proof of residency in Broome is required.
If your dog should stray or become lost, Shire of Broome Rangers can check for a microchip, obtain your address and contact details and advise you that your dog has been found.
Community members wanting further information can contact Ranger Services on 0407 382 079.
