Broome: Wharfies call 24-hour strike

Maritime workers have walked off the job at Broome Port.

They say management refuses to discuss health and safety concerns, such as the lack of toilets.

Fitzroy Crossing: Youth crime inquiry to visit

A parliamentary inquiry will visit Fitzroy Crossing for a public meeting tomorrow (Wednesday 31 March 2010).

Indigenous affairs minister Jenny Macklin set up the inquiry because so many young Aboriginal people are in the criminal justice system.

Panoramic Resources signs further 10-year nickel deal

Panoramic Resources has signed a deal to sell all of  Savannah mine’s product for a further 10 years.

The new contract with a single Chinese buyer will extend the nickel mine’s life until 2020.

Halls Creek: Water consumption down 10%

Halls Creek has cut it’s water use by 10%, but the Water Corporation says this is not enough.

The corporation is asking Halls Creek people to reduce consumption by a further 5%, as it is know known how much water can be extracted from new bores.

A local Aboriginal corporation is buying one of Fitzroy Crossing’s few commercially-zoned freehold properties.

Morgan and Nina Neilsen, who first acquired the vacant land several decades ago, have accepted an offer for their Fitzroy Hardware property from Marra Worra Worra. more »
