Regional sporting facilities are big winners in CSRFF grants says local upper-house member Wendy Duncan.

In the Kimberley the fund allocated $25,000 to a BMX track at Wyndham and $235,000 to the football oval at Ardyaloon (One Arm Point).

The Roebourne Aquatic Centre is one of the big winners following the announcement of the 2010-11 Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) grants.

Hon Wendy Duncan MLC, Member for Mining and Pastoral Region today said that boosting infrastructure for regional sporting and recreation facilities through the CSRFF grants was an important factor in encouraging active lifestyles.

“People throughout regional Western Australia would be able to enjoy the benefits of upgraded and new facilities across a range of sporting and recreational amenities provided through the CSRFF funding” said Ms Duncan.

Projects in the Mining and Pastoral Region funded from this round were:

  • Kalgoorlie/Boulder Bowling Club – For the replacement of two synthetic greens a total of $215, 284
  • Ardyaloon Incorporated – for the establishment and irrigation of Ardyalon football oval a total of $235,000
  • Town of Port Hedland – for an upgrade to the South Hedland Aquatic Centre a  total of $600,000
  • The Shire of Wyndham/East Kimberley – for construction of a BMX track in Wyndham a total of $25,000
  • The Shire of Roebourne – for an upgrade of the Roebourne Aquatic Centre a total of $1,000,000
  • The Shire of Yalgoo – for construction of a new active water playground a total of $139,044

Ms Duncan was delighted that projects in the Mining and Pastoral region had been allocated more than $2.2 million in CSRFF funding.

“The above projects are so varied and will all lead to strengthening local regional communities and encourage people of all ages to be active” said Ms Duncan.

The Liberal-National state government more than doubled the CSRFF fund from $9 million, enabling this round’s successful applicants to share in a total of $20 million in funding.
