Opinion: Brendon Grylls ‘like a spoilt child’ says Barry Haase

Barry Haase MHR
Local member Barry Haase compares WA Nationals’ leader Brendon Grylls to a “spoilt child”.
Mr Haase, who is also the endorsed Liberal candidate for the new seat of Durack, is commenting on Mr Grylls desire to take the federal Nationals out of a coalition agreement with the Liberals, as he has done in WA.

Out of step
Out of luck!
Dear Editor,
Decisions of the Federal Parliament House of Representatives are made on the basis of a majority vote. There are currently 83 Australian Labor Party members, 64 Coalition members (of which 9 are from the National Party), and 3 Independents equalling 150 members of the House of Representatives. Kevin Rudd is Prime Minister because the Australian Labor Party has more seats than the Coalition. The only way to have decisions made that favour regional Australia is to have a majority of Coalition seats.
“The West Australian state Government situation is unique. Mr Grylls was able to achieve what he has by nature of the exceptional circumstances. This was done almost in cooperation with the Labor Party, who at the last minute Mr Grylls turned his back on. The likelihood of the same circumstance occurring in the Federal arena is in the extreme. Few would bet on a hundred to one for the winner of the Melbourne Cup,” said Mr Haase.
The call by the West Australian branch of the National Party to have Federal acceptance of a ‘no Coalition agreement’ at a Federal party level has fallen on deaf ears.
“The attitude of the self styled and opinionated Leader of the National Party in WA is that of a spoilt child”, Mr Barry Haase, Federal Member of the Coalition said.
“With the leader of the Federal National Party, Mr Warren Truss rebutting his state counterpart at every available opportunity, Mr Grylls is proving to be out of step and out of luck,
“Even with the greatest of ‘good luck’, the West Australian Nationals will not send enough elected members to the House of Representatives in Canberra to have the majority. Contrary to Mr Grylls comments that his party would have more of a say in Canberra, by playing no part in the Coalition means Western Australian Nationals will have no say! What then can they possibly hope to achieve for regional WA? Mr Grylls and his team of Federal hopefuls have an odd view of democracy” said Mr Haase.
The Federal Liberal Coalition, with the participation of Barry Haase has, in recent times, achieved real outcomes including:
- Youth Allowance changes
- Regional Partnerships Funding (abolished by the Rudd Government)
- Roads to Recovery (Direct funding to local government)
- Federal funds to the Ord River, stage two project
- Investing in our schools (funds for needed improvements)
- Stopping Rudd’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme
- Removal of Fringe Benefits Tax on primary production employer provided housing
- The Government backdown of risky beef importation
- $127.4 mill Reform Package for AQIS
“The outcome of the next Federal election that Western Australians so clearly want is the removal of the Rudd Labor Government. To achieve this the Liberals and the Nationals need to win seats held by Labor, spending valuable campaign dollars converting Liberal seats to National seats is just plain dumb!
“Durack voters have every right to understand and enjoy Australian democracy. Being elected does not mean your single voice will be listened to. Being part of a majority and influencing outcomes is what effective politics is all about” Mr Haase stated.
