No mad cow imports expected this year

The government  expects no cattle from countries with mad cow disease to enter the country this year.

An Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) spokesman said the import ban had been lifted on cattle from BSE (mad cow) affected countries,  but the licensing procedures were too stringent and lengthy to make any imports likely this year.
