People: Lexie Trancollino and John Komerek

Lexie Trancollino has been reunited with her cousin-brother John Komerek, who lives in Queensland.

Her late father, a Karajarri man named Martin Trancollino, was John’s mother’s brother.

John’s mother had been taken away, when Martin was 13yrs old.

Martin spent most of his life in Halls Creek, and raised a family without ever finding his sister again.

Halls Creek: Platinum project on hold

Platinum Australia’s Panton project, 60km north of Halls Creek, is still on hold.

The company’s half yearly report says metal prices and the $US exchange rate make it uneconomical to mine the platinum and paladium reserve at present.

Broome: Native title ‘bigger than Ben Hur’

Yawuru elder Frank Sebastian said Thursday’s native title settlement was “bigger than Ben Hur” to him.

The ABC’s Erin Parke discusses the task now ahead of Broome’s Yawuru people, having just received almost $200million worth of land and other benefits.

Broome: Dodson and Yu criticise native title process

Yawuru claimants Peter Yu and Pat Dodson are critical of the native title process.

They say it is overly litigious and personally intrusive to the many elders that have to give evidence.

Their comments come after yesterday’s signing of the Rubibi native title agreement coving much of the country in and around Broome.

Cable Beach: Baby croc bites man

A 15cm crocodile bit a tourist through the heel of his boot as he walked on Wednesday.

The reptile is thought to have escaped from the nearby Malcolm Douglas crocodile park.

The man found dead on Broome Highway at 3.00am today has been identified.

He is Josh Warneke, 21, and police are treating his death as a suspected hit-and-run.
