EXPANSION PROJECT UPDATE
SITE WORKS STARTED ON WORKERS’ VILLAGE
The Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project is progressing well with plenty of activity occurring behind the scenes over the holiday period. Tender evaluations are currently taking place on two major components of the project, the workers’ accommodation village and the main contract for delivery of Phase 1 of the channel, drainage and road infrastructure.

Ertech have just been awarded a contract for the site works for the workers’ accommodation village. The works include site clearing, servicing and bulk earthworks which will prepare the site for the construction of the camp and transfer of the refurbished accommodation units. Ertech have commenced clearing on site this week.

The four shortlisted proponents for the main contract have submitted full proposals and these are being evaluated by a panel consisting of representatives from the Department of Regional Development and Lands, LandCorp, MG Corporation, Water Corporation and Main Roads WA overseen by our probity advisor. Evaluation for such a major contract is a complex process and it is expected to be at least two months before an announcement can be made.

Tenders for the construction, day-to-day operation and maintenance of the proposed workers’ accommodation village closed on 19 January and are also being evaluated, with a view to announcing the preferred proponent in the next few weeks.

MG Corp welcomes Renae Black and Marcia Gerrard to the Aboriginal Development Package (ADP) team. Renae fills the position of Community Business Development Officer helping MG people capitalise on enterprise opportunities associated with the projects. Marcia joins the team as MG Employment Support Officer supporting the community with access to jobs and training.

The next public information forum will be held on Thursday 11 March at 5.30pm at the Kimberley Grande. This is your chance to find out more about the project and what’s happening in the next few months when the various elements of the project will really start to take shape.
