Fitzroy Crossing and Derby: More pay for shire workers
by Geoff Vivian

Shire workers and staff in Derby and Fitzroy Crossing have negotiated pay rises and other benefits.
Under the terms of a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement they will recieve 5% per year for the next three years, plus a better subsidy for their power and water bills.
Outside workers will also have their bereavement leave increased from two to five days a year, which is what inside staff already get.
Those who do regular after-hours callouts, such as rangers and airport staff, get an extra $30 per week.
All staff will receive a location allowance, which will be slightly higher in Fitzroy Crossing than Derby because of the higher cost of living.
CEO Shane Burge, who prepared the document for council consideration, said he approved of the agreement.
“It is considered that this agreement is very fair and reasonable considering the climate that we are currently in, income increases expected in the future for local government and the ability to attract and retain employees in a competitive market,” he said.
The shire approved the package in draft form at last week’s council meeting.
It now needs to be certified by the Industrial Commission before shire employees can formally vote to approve it.
