Dolphin activist Ric O’Barry wants Broome to maintain the pressure on its Japanese sister-town Taiji.
Mr O’Barry, who was in Taiji over the weekend, said the local fishermen are yet to start killing dolphins, despite the open-season which commenced on 1 September. more »

Timor Sea: Sea creatures swimming through oil slick
An independant survey has found marine creatures swimming through a massive oil slick.
Researchers returning from a two day trip to the site of the West Atlas rig oil spill have photographs of dolphins, snakes and seabirds on the oily ocean surface.
Coral and Red Emporer are both due to start spawning in the area soon.

Timor Sea: Greens slam government research effort
A Greens senator criticised the government’s marine life survey after a major oil spill.
A green group has been conducting a privately-funded study of marine life near the stricken West Atlas rig, which is still leaking crude oil into the ocean 200km off WA’s northern coast.
Senator Siewart said the government’s own study is inadequate.
