A nineteen-year-old Broome man is charged with abducting and raping his ex girlfriend.

He appeared in Broome magistrate’s court today.

Broome: Japanese cemetary ‘not vandalised’

Police say Japanese headstones were not pushed over last week, contrary to earlier reports.

However pictures of dolphins were attached to some graves in apparent protest at Broome’s sister-city Taiji’s annual dolphin kill.

Broome shire is thought to be reconsidering its action in protesting against its sister city after last Friday’s meeting with senior Asian-Australian residents.

The shire council is due to meet at Beagle Bay on 2 September.

NT Police arrest car thief

NT Police arrested a young man who allegedly stole a car in Nullagine and petrol in Kununurra.

They say he refused medical assistance after blowing a tyre and rolling the car 100km south of Darwin.

Million dollar cane toad grant

The Commonwealth has granted $1million to help slow the cane toad invastion of Western Australia.

Hall Creek shire is determined to get the Tanami Road upgraded – and will pay a consultant to help.

As the only direct route from the Kimberley to central Australia (and from there to the big cities in the south and east) the shire wants the long dirt track recognised as a Federal Interstate Road. more »
